During a recent girls’ night Zoom call, I casually mentioned that all I wanted for my birthday was a beach party, reminiscent of the vibrant Lisa Frank theme from the 90s. I reminisced about the colorful swag I cherished during my elementary school days – the folders, stickers, beads, pencils, and notebooks. They were my prized possessions, displayed proudly alongside my Spice Girls posters. The idea of experiencing that sense of happiness and diving headfirst into nostalgia thrilled me.

With life’s relentless demands, my birthday was fast approaching, and planning a weekend beach trip wasn’t feasible. However, my friends and I managed to arrange a Saturday sleepover. Little did I know, this ordinary girls’ night turned into a spectacular Lisa Frank-themed birthday celebration, all thanks to my attentive friends (who, I must admit, remembered my Lisa Frank comment).

And so, the planning commenced. Although my friends kindly requested that I refrain from buying anything, I couldn’t resist the temptation of a theme. All I truly wanted was a night of cake and conversation with my beloved friends.

Armed with my new Lisa Frank cup, a Pandora station dedicated to S Club 7, and an overnight bag, I eagerly embarked on an evening filled with nostalgic vibes and a dip into my carefree youth. As I arrived at the party venue, I was greeted with a platter of rainbow fruit and delicious bites, accompanied by a glass of wine and a playlist of 90s tunes. The conversations flowed effortlessly as we indulged in our shared love for Lisa Frank. We even embarked on a craft project involving canvas and yarn, followed by impromptu line dancing, singing, and sipping on my favorite adult beverages – Lemon Drops and French 75s.

After a delectable dinner lovingly prepared by my friends, we snuggled up on the couch with cozy blankets and binge-watched episodes of Sweet Valley High. It was a night well-spent, steeped in nostalgia.
